Arrests made in Gainesville High vandalism

POSTED: September 28, 2008 5:01 a.m.

One 17-year-old boy and three juveniles have been charged in weekend vandalism at Gainesville High School, said Lt. Scott Ware with Hall County’s Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad.

Brandon Eddie Cannon, 17, of Gainesville, was one of the four charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree.

Authorities withheld the names of the other suspects because they are underage.

The three juveniles attend North Hall High School and Cannon isn’t enrolled at an area school, Ware said.

They are accused of spray-painting profanities and "Go Trojans" in green on the front windows and doors of the school.

Also, a drink vending machine and several picnic tables had been overturned near the cafeteria.

The damage was discovered early Sunday. The total amount of damage to the school and the drink machine was estimated at $7,450, Ware said.

Cannon was booked in at the Hall County Detention Center.

The juveniles were turned over to their parents and are awaiting criminal proceedings in Hall County Juvenile Court, Ware said.

The students "will receive school-level punishment (that) will include out-of-school suspension," said Will Schofield, superintendent of the Hall County school system.

They also will be required to make restitution, he added.

Also, "if the case holds, an individual will qualify for the joint reward," Schofield said, referring to a $1,500 reward offered by the Hall and Gainesville school systems.
