A subscription is now required for Times online content

POSTED: October 9, 2013 1:12 a.m.

Beginning today, visitors to The Times’ website,, will need a subscription to the newspaper or to the website in order to view most of the content posted online.

Limited content, including classifieds, obituaries, urgent breaking news and some abbreviated general news, will remain accessible at no charge.

The changes come as The Times is making available apps for immediate access to an electronic edition of the full daily paper. Apps for use by Apple products, Android and Kindle Fire are available free of charge at the appropriate app store under the name Times To Go.

While the apps are free, those using them will still need a subscription to The Times or the website to view the digital edition.

The Times now also offers a full digital edition of the newspaper to online subscribers, as well as added content to the subscriber portion of the online site.

To access the subscription-based portion of the website, visitors will need to create an account by registering, if they have not already done so. Those who already subscribe to The Times print edition will confirm that they are subscribers and have immediate access upon registration.

Those who do not already have a subscription will be given a chance to purchase one of four different subscription plans, including an online-only subscription, with monthly billing via credit card. They may also purchase a 24-hour pass for a one-day visit.

Those without subscriptions will be allowed to view a limited number of stories at no charge before being asked to subscribe.

If you are a subscriber who has problems accessing the site, email or call 770-532-2222.
