Annual car show cruises into Oakwood

POSTED: October 6, 2013 12:15 a.m.

The sound of hot-cammed, loping engine notes and the smell of high octane exhaust were in the air Saturday as the fourth annual Oakwood Secret Santa Car Show brought more than 150 classic muscle and vintage cars and trucks to the Hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep lot.

The event raised money for some of the town’s needier children to have a better Christmas. Proceeds from entry and vendor fees, a silent auction and corporate donations will buy clothes and hygiene items, event coordinator Sheri Millwood said.

“It provides Christmas for children and families in Oakwood who otherwise wouldn’t have one,” Millwood said.
Recipients are chosen by Oakwood Elementary School and local police, Millwood said.

“We don’t know the names. That’s why it’s ‘Secret Santa.’”

This year’s goal was $10,000.

“That may be a little more aggressive than what we’ll raise (this year), but we’d like to get there eventually,” Millwood said.

A red-suited Santa Claus also arrived in a Hall County fire truck, quickly shedding his coat in the heat as he walked the lot talking to children.

“It’s also an opportunity for fun family fellowship,” Millwood said.
