Commerce defeats George Walton, 31-21

Commerce defeated George Walton Academy 31-21 on Friday in Commerce.

A pair on interceptions by Grant Mayberry and Cole Chancey changed the game in Commerce’s favor.

Mayberry intercepted a George Walton pass and ran it back 74 yards to the 6-yard line for the Tigers (3-2), who scored three plays later on a run by Caleb Brooks.

Chancey intercepted a pass with under a minute to play, giving Commerce the ball. The Tigers ran one play before time ran out to earn the win.

Chance McClure scored a pair of touchdowns and ran for 145 yards on 21 carries for Commerce, and Jamir Walton tallied 118 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

Nahum Mendoza kicked a 37-yard field goal following the Brooks touchdown to give the Tigers the 10-point lead they finished with.

Commerce visits Athens Christian next Friday in Athens.
