High school scoreboard: Sept. 24

Tanai Watson led Gainesville with 18 assists, six service points and two aces in wins against Putnam County (25-7, 25-4) and Loganville (25-23, 25-19) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Alyssa Turner added seven aces, six kills and three service points for the Lady Red Elephants (14-12, 6-2 Region 8-AAAAA), and Sydney Calkins had 16 service points.

Gainesville plays host to Habersham Central and Tallulah Falls tonight in Gainesville.

BUFORD SPLITS PAIR: Myra Sanchez led the Lady Wolves with 12 assists, six aces and four kills in a win against Cross Keys (25-2, 25-11) and a loss to Blessed Trinity (25-7, 25-21) on Tuesday in Roswell.

McKenna Hicks had five kills and an ace for Buford (23-9) and Amalie Gee added six aces.

The Lady Wolves visit South Gwinnett for a tri-match with Meadowcreek on Thursday in Snellville.

NORTH HALL WINS ONE: Jen Mullican had 12 kills and two blocks for North Hall in a win against Decatur (25-19, 25-12) and a loss to St. Pius X (25-6, 25-18) on Thursday.

Kristina Gregory added 29 assists, three aces and three kills for the Lady Trojans, and Makenzie Bryant had 12 digs and three aces.

JOHNSON FALLS IN TRI-MATCH: Kelly Chance recorded 11 assists, nine kills, six digs and five aces to lead the Lady Knights in losses to Eastside (25-19, 16-25, 25-17) and Lanier (25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday in Sugar Hill.

Kasey Gravitt added three kills, two aces and a block, and Cassie McDonald had three kills and a block for Johnson (8-20, 3-3 Area 8-AAAA). Caitlin Parsons had three digs.

The Lady Knights visit Monroe Area on Thursday in Monroe.

FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS: Flowery Branch’s volleyball team split a pair of matches against Hart County and Winder-Barrow on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons lost to Hart County before beating Winder-Barrow, 25-19 and 25-16.

Gabrielle Burke led the way with eight assists, while Bailey Smith, Madeline Tulk, Erin McGlone and Katie Hall each finished with three kills each. Jessica Justice had a solid defensive night for Flowery Branch, which visits Heritage next week in a region match.

CHESTATEE SWEEPS AT HOME: Melanie Smith led the Lady War Eagles with 11 kills and three aces in wins against Madison County (25-19, 25-4) and Monroe Area (25-20, 25-15) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Grace Brown had 10 digs and nine kills for Chestatee, and Alexa Starr had four kills and two blocks. Lizzy Farr tallied seven digs.

The Lady War Eagles visit Johnson next Tuesday in Oakwood.

WEST HALL, EAST HALL SPLIT: Kelsi Jones tallied 32 kills and 26 digs for the Lady Spartans in a win against East Hall (25-22, 25-23) and a loss to Jackson County (26-24, 19-25, 25-17) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Emily Grainger had 26 kills for West Hall (15-12, 4-3 Area 5-AAA), Alli Busbee added 35 assists and Mia McKensey had nine blocks.

For East Hall, Kara Hix led with 35 digs, 15 service points, seven kills, three aces and an assist in a win against Jackson County (25-17, 25-17) and the loss to West Hall.

Tarryn Long added 34 kills, eight service points, six digs, three aces, three blocks and two assists for the Lady Vikings (24-13, 2-5 Area 5-AAA), and Cassida Shockley had 37 assists, five digs, four service points and two kills.

West Hall plays host to Lumpkin County at Rabun County on Thursday in Oakwood, while East Hall hosts Gainesville and Lakeview Academy on Thursday in Gainesville.

LAKEVIEW TAKES TWO: Katie Gay led Lakeview with 12 kills, nine digs and an ace in wins against Athens Christian (25-21, 25-21) and Providence Christian (25-12, 25-23) on Tuesday in Athens.

Katie White had 26 digs, seven kills and an ace for the Lady Lions, and Bailey Towles had 30 service points, 11 assists and seven aces. Shelby Ross had four aces and three blocks.

Lakeview Academy visits East Hall on Thursday in Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE WINS IN JEFFERSON: The Red Elephants’ boys team had three runners finish in the top-13 as the team took first place at the Main Street News Invitational on Tuesday at Crows Lake in Jefferson.

Juan Ortega led Gainesville with a fifth-place finish in 18 minutes, 7 seconds. Drew Wright was sixth at 10:31 and Diego Rangel finished eighth in 18:41. Daniel Harben came in 11th at 18:44, and Tanner Peacock was 13th with a time of 18:52.

Chestatee’s boys team took second place, led by Jason Dang in third place at 17:56. Jack Carnes placed fourth in 18:03.

The Lady War Eagles took first in the girls race, led by Maggee Wilson in fifth place in 22:08. Sara Beth English finished sixth in 22:12.


LAKEVIEW 9, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 5: The Lady Lions earned their first win of the season behind Julian Garrett’s stellar performance on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Garrett hit a two-run home run, a double and a single to finish 3 for 4 with five RBIs for Lakeview Academy (1-9).

Ansley Cash went 2 for 4 for the Lady Lions, and Hanna Grogan earned the win pitching with four strikeouts over seven innings.

Lakeview Academy visits Athens Christian on Thursday in Athens.

BUFORD 17, BANKS COUNTY 9: Drew Puckett’s third-inning grand slam powered the Lady Wolves on Tuesday in Buford.

Remington Hasty finished 4 for 4 with a two-run home run, four RBIs and three runs scored for Buford (21-1, 10-0 Region 7-AAA), and Alexus Murray was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Niki Cook finished 3 for 4 with a triple, an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Emily Crocker earned the win pitching for the Lady Wolves.

Buford visits North Gwinnett at 7 tomorrow in Suwanee.

GAINESVILLE 13, CENTRAL GWINNETT 12: Gainesville improved to 8-15 on the season, defeating the Central Gwinnett on Tuesday night.

Kara England earned the win in the circle, striking out nine Central Gwinnett batters. She was also 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.

Kayla Montague was 3 for 5 with an RBI, while Kayla Street was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Gainesville hosts Johnson at 5:30 tonight at Lanier Point Park.

EAST HALL 5, NORTH HALL 4: Kali Turner led East Hall with a home run in the sixth inning along with a double and a single on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Abby Black added a pair of singles for the Lady Vikings, and Natalie Winters earned the win pitching.

East Hall plays host to Buford on Thursday in Gainesville.

JACKSON COUNTY 9, HART COUNTY 3: Shelton Kendrix went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Lady Panthers on Thursday in Jefferson.

Mason Garland was 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Jackson County, Peyton Sorrells had two RBIs and Victoria Woods added an RBI.

Sorrells earned the win pitching, striking out six over six innings. Jessica Baker pitched the seventh inning in relief, striking out one of three batters faced.

The Lady Panthers visit East Jackson on Thursday in Commerce.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 2, UNION COUNTY 0 (Monday): The Lady Indians two runs came from a double by Taylor Black in the fourth inning on Monday.

Chelsea Oliver earned the win pitching.
