Gainesville planning board approves dealership's annexation request

POSTED: September 10, 2013 8:30 p.m.

The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board approved the annexation request Tuesday of Foote & Miller Properties LLC.

The request annexed about 2.7 acres of the Milton Martin Honda car dearlership on Browns Bridge Road into the city of Gainesville. The property has two buildings for new and used car sales, vehicle parts and service.

State Sen. Butch Miller, R-Gainesville, is a business partner of Foote & Miller and general manager of the Honda dealership.

The purpose of the annexation is to get city sewer service for an existing bathroom at the dealership. The Gainesville Public Utilities Department serves the business with water and is constructing a sanitary sewer extension to tie on to the property.

“We want the annexation to be a benefit to the city and of course to our business and to our community at large,” Miller said at the hearing.

Board member George Hokayem recused himself from the vote. He said after the meeting he decided not to vote because he has represented Milton Martin Honda in previous real estate deals.

“It seemed like the right thing to do,” Hokayem said.

Board member Jane Fleming was absent.
