Hall County schools named to SHAPE Honor Roll

POSTED: September 4, 2013 11:43 p.m.

Hall County schools set the gold standard for shaping up, with several receiving medals in Gov. Nathan Deal’s SHAPE Honor Roll program.

Deal announced 107 schools received either gold, silver or bronze medals this year in the program designed to challenge schools to make improvements in nutrition, physical activity and wellness.

Receiving gold medals were: Chestnut Mountain Creative School of Inquiry, McEver Arts Academy, Riverbend Elementary, Sardis Enrichment School, Spout Springs School of Enrichment, Sugar Hill Elementary, White Sulphur Elementary, North Hall Middle School and South Hall Middle School.

These schools were nine out of the 51 schools statewide receiving gold medals. Forty-one schools earned silver, and 15 won bronze. It’s the second year appearing on the list for all but McEver, Riverbend and Sardis.

“I would like to thank the families, faculty and staff for their continued commitment to promoting an active lifestyle among students,” Deal said in a news release. “We are seeing signs of improvement as the SHAPE program continues to grow, but there is still much work to be done.”
