Your Views: No Child law leaves many children behind

POSTED: August 30, 2013 1:00 a.m.

Re: “Study says waivers hurt students,” from Wednesday’s Times: There has been an unintended consequence of the No Child Left Behind program. The brightest and gifted children are being left behind.

NCLB has resulted in a lowering of expectation and fewer educational challenges for these children. Some of the special schools and programs are helping, but not enough. The United States has been falling behind in educated citizens for some time. NCLB is not the only cause, but is definitely a contributing factor.

Everyone should learn what educators already know — there is no “one size fits all” in education. We must educate ALL of our children. The schools cannot do it alone; as it also requires parental involvement.
