Braves' Justin Upton hit on hand by pitch

POSTED: August 29, 2013 9:07 p.m.

ATLANTA — Outfielder Justin Upton has left Atlanta's game against Cleveland after he was hit on his left hand by a pitch.

Upton was plunked with a 92-mph fastball from Ubaldo Jimenez that rode into the hitter in the fifth inning Thursday night with Atlanta leading 3-0.

The training staff immediately ran out to check on Upton, who looked as though he would stay in the game. But he was escorted to the dugout and replaced by Freddie Freeman, who was supposed to get a night off.

The Braves already lost outfielder Jason Heyward in similar fashion. He needed surgery for a broken jaw after being struck by a pitch against the New York Mets, though Heyward hopes to return in time for the playoffs
