World Language Academy named Highest Progress School of Excellence

POSTED: August 14, 2013 12:54 a.m.

World Language Academy in Flowery Branch has been named a 2012 School of Excellence in Student Achievement in the Highest Progress category.

The school is one of 28 so named by State School Superintendent John Barge and will receive a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural Gas. United Healthcare was also a sponsor of the program.

“These schools are the epitome of excellence,” Barge said. “It took us a while to name the 2012 Schools of Excellence, but we wanted to measure them based on our College and Career Ready Performance Index rather than the old measure. With our new, more rigorous accountability system, these schools really shine. Their focus on areas that impact student success is evident across the board. I offer my congratulations to our 2012 Georgia Schools of Excellence.”

Each congressional district has the opportunity to have a school in the Highest Performance and Highest Progress categories, providing the schools meet the eligibility requirements.

For the Highest Progress classification, those include a Progress CCRPI score greater than 11.5, not currently being identified as a Priority, Focus or Alert school and not having received the Highest Performing School of Excellence Award in the past five years. Highest Progress schools are those in each congressional district making the greatest gains on the CCRPI.
