Class Notes: Schools host open houses for students

With school beginning in both Hall and Gainesville school systems Monday, open houses for students, parents and teachers will be held throughout the rest of this week.

For Gainesville schools: Gainesville Middle School will meet Thursday, 3-6 p.m.; Wood’s Mill Academy will meet Thursday, 9-10 a.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.; Gainesville Exploration Academy, Centennial Arts Academy, Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy and New Holland Core Knowledge Academy will meet Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Fair Street will meet Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

The Gainesville High marketplace will be Thursday. Freshmen will meet 9:30 a.m. to noon, and upperclassmen will meet noon to 3 p.m. The marketplace will be held in the new Gainesville High School gym.

For the Gainesville school system, bus information is available at these open house events. Alternatively, parents and guardians may call 770-536-8312 for route information.

In Hall County: Grades K-5 will meet Thursday, 3-6 p.m.; grades 6-8 and grades 9-12 will meet Friday, 3-6 p.m.

Hall County school bus schedules are posted at the front entrance of each school. If parents are unavailable to visit their child’s school before classes begin Monday, they may call 770-287-0942.

GACTE honors Hall County educators

Felecia Doyle and Rodney Pres-ley were honored by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education at the annual summer conference in July.

Nominated by their division peers and selected by an awards committee, both Doyle and Presley were presented with plaques naming them as their division’s 2013 Outstanding Teachers in Community Service.

Doyle was the award nominee for the teacher affiliate of Work-Based Learning and Youth Apprenticeship. She is the coordinator for the Work Based Learning Program at Flowery Branch High School.

Presley was the award nominee for the teacher affiliate of the Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia. He is the Construction Technology instructor at Johnson High, and the Habitat High instructor for Lanier Charter Career Academy.
