Kids in need of school supplies have options

POSTED: July 25, 2013 11:49 p.m.

A number of organizations are offering school supplies for students in need.

Corinth Baptist Church will be handing out backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of the church at 3590 Thompson Bridge Road.

The child must be present to receive a backpack.

The Cross Seekers Sunday school class gathered about 200 backpacks along with some school supplies, including paper, crayons and pencils.

For those who want to donate backpacks, there is another opportunity coming up.

United Way of Hall County Young Leaders Society is doing an Adopt-A-Backpack program in partnership with School Tools for Cool Kids supply drive.

Those interested can adopt a backpack and fill it with listed school supplies before dropping it off at the United Way office by Aug. 8. Contact United Way at 678-989-5333 for the school supply list.

Another option is funding a backpack, with $10 paying for an elementary school student’s backpack, $15 for middle school and $20 for high school.

Backpacks will be delivered to every school in the Gainesville and Hall systems before school begins.

Adopt-A-Backpack donation sites include the following:

  • Community Bank and Trust’s Hall County branches
  • Hamilton State Bank
  • The Crystal Plate, 111 Brenau Ave., Gainesville
  • United Community Bank’s Hall County branches
  • United Way of Hall County, 527 Oak St., Gainesville
  • Wells Fargo, 340 Jesse Jewell Parkway, Gainesville
  • Wells Fargo Advisors on Spring Street

Donations also can be made to the school supply drive at any Publix Super Market. School supplies will be delivered to guidance counselors in Gainesville and Hall County school systems on Aug. 14.
