Flood watch remains in effect for Northeast Georgia

POSTED: July 13, 2013 8:59 p.m.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for Northeast Georgia through 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service says periods of locally heavy rainfall are possible overnight. Soils remain saturated, so flooding is possible near waterways and in low-lying areas.

Strong thunderstorms have the potential to produce high winds, frequent lightning and small hail.

The chance of storms continues Sunday, 60 percent, with the chance diminishing into the evening and on into Monday, which should see more sun.

A quarter-inch of rain has been recorded Saturday at the NWS recording station at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville.
