Demorest police investigate cash missing from City Hall

POSTED: July 11, 2013 9:41 p.m.

The Demorest Police Department is investigating a theft of cash from City Hall.

The theft occurred between Jan. 25 and Feb. 12, according to the police report. An estimated $5,000 from the city’s utilities’ payments is unaccounted for.

“The investigation is ongoing, so we are restricted with the amount of information we can disclose,” City Manager Juanita Crumley said. “We have conferred with the Habersham sheriff’s office, the GBI and the Georgia Department of Corrections. All customers’ accounts are reconciled with computer entries so no individual accounts are affected,” she added.
