Woman not hurt after crashing van into lake

POSTED: June 5, 2013 11:50 p.m.

A Cleveland woman was uninjured when her van crashed Wednesday morning into Lake Lanier.

Jaylea Pruitt, 22, was driving a 2003 Ford Windstar and traveling north on Pine Valley Road when she lost control in a curve, went airborne, and landed in the northeast side of Lake Lanier, according to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Franka Young.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Auston Allen said Pruitt was traveling too fast as she made the fairly sharp left curve. The van went behind the guard rail on the bridge and into the water.

Pruitt was alone in the van and was not visibly injured.

Allen said the van was completely submerged when help arrived, but Pruitt was able to exit the vehicle by herself. She told responding officers that she was wearing her seat belt.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team helped to remove the van using a wrecker.
