Female passenger suffers serious injuries in wreck

A female passenger was flown by helicopter to Grady Hospital in Atlanta on Tuesday after a Ford Explorer was involved in a single-vehicle accident.

The Explorer was northbound on Old Cornelia Highway and left the road on the east shoulder. The vehicle hit a mailbox, crossed the roadway, struck an embankment, and then crossed the roadway again before coming to rest on the east shoulder.

The female passenger’s injuries were described as serious by the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle is identified as Christopher Ryan Edwards, age 20, from Gainesville. He was not injured. He has been taken to the Hall County Jail and charged with DUI, serious injury by vehicle, failing to maintain lane, and driving without license on person, GSP said.

The accident remains under investigation by the state patrol.
