West Hall's Caldwell-Booker wins state title in 100-meter dash

West Hall sprinter Maia Caldwell-Booker recorded a time of 11.95 seconds to finish first in the Class AAA 100-meter dash at the girls state track and field meet Saturday at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Caldwell-Booker was the only runner to break the 12-second mark in the race. She beat her preliminary time of 12.06 seconds.

Caldwell-Booker also placed fourth in the Class AAA 400 relay, along with Simone McGee, LeNiesha Kearse and Mia McKinsey. The Lady Spartans’ team recorded a time of 49.45 seconds.

Kearse added to West Hall’s medal count with a second-place finish in the Class AAA 100 hurdles (14.68).

White County’s Jenna Gearing added to her already impressive freshman season, reaching the podium at state for the third time this year with the Lady Warriors’ eighth-place finish in the Class AAA 1600 relay. After winning the 3200 on Thursday and placing second in the 1600 Friday, she joined Kaitlyn Gearing, Kristen Mitchell and Paige Thomas for a time of 4:12.62.

Mitchell, who was third in the 1600 Friday, picked up another third-place finish Saturday in the Class AAA 800 finals with a time of 2:23.19. Katie Adams was eighth in the 300 hurdles for White County (48.96).

Commerce’s Zoey Forrester led the Lady Tigers with a second-place finish in the Class A public 100 hurdles (17.03). Sydney McClure was fourth in the Class A public 300 hurdles (52.10), then joined Hannah Crumley, Lily Mather and Cameron Hawkins to take sixth in the Class A public 1600 relay (4:35.06).

For Jefferson, Camille Porter placed sixth in the Class AA 800 (2:29.41). She was also on the Lady Dragons’ sixth-place Class AA 1600 relay team (4:12.04), along with Jaclyn Coleman, Savannah Dale and Madison Dills.

Three area teams finished in the top four of the Class AAA team standings. North Hall was fourth with 38 points, followed by White County in sixth (32) and West Hall in seventh (30). Commerce was fourth in Class A public with 33.5 points.
