Grant joins Tech's growing injured list

POSTED: October 31, 2007 5:07 a.m.

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech, already making plans to be without ACC leading rusher Tashard Choice for at least one game, now must adjust to the loss of another tailback.

Senior Rashaun Grant, who was expected to start as Choice’s replacement Thursday night against Virginia Tech, may miss the rest of the regular season with a lower leg injury.

Grant missed the fourth quarter of last Saturday’s win over Army after taking a hit above his right ankle.

Georgia Tech announced Friday that tests showed the injury is more serious than first believed. Grant rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown before leaving with the injury.

The injury denies Grant the opportunity to make his first start since his 2004 freshman season.

Grant has 39 carries for 231 yards and one touchdown this season.

"I feel bad for Rashaun," coach Chan Gailey said.

"It’s tough to lose guys, especially now, when he was going to get an opportunity to start next week."

Choice had arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday for a right knee injury.

Georgia Tech is off this weekend.

With Choice and Grant out, freshman Jonathan Dwyer and sophomore Jamaal Evans are the team’s most experienced remaining tailbacks.
