Is Long John Silver’s coming back?
There are no current plans for a Long John Silver’s location in Gainesville, according to Gainesville Community Development Director Rusty Ligon.
The restaurant located at 1281 Thompson Bridge Road burned in April, and the company will not be rebuilding.
Company officials, however, have expressed some interest in coming back to the city at some point, possibly with a new concept of the restaurant that focuses more on a sit-down, family-style environment, Ligon said.
But for now, that possibility is just talk.
As for the Thompson Bridge property, the owner lives in California, and Ligon said no one has submitted any plans to redevelop the land.
What is the law concerning drivers not in a funeral procession? For instance, I was driving on McEver Road when a funeral procession was coming toward me. This road is divided with a median in the center. I did not stop but some other cars did. What about travel in the opposite direction of a funeral procession with no divider in the middle?
Georgia law outlines that funeral processions have the right of way at intersections but it does not address motorists stopping as a procession passes, which is a long-held Southern tradition.
Processions have the right of way except when an emergency vehicle or traffic officer override that right.
Another vehicle should not interrupt that procession and is not allowed to join the procession simply to secure the right of way, Georgia code states.
Other vehicles also are not allowed to pass vehicles in a funeral procession on a two-lane highway.
