The giant bump in the gym floor at Centennial Arts Academy in Gainesville is no more.

Repairs on the floor damaged by flooding on Jan. 1 have been completed, and students are again able to use the school gym.

A leak in the roof over the winter holidays led to buckling of the wooden floorboards in the building. The Gainesville City Board of Education approved repairs to the gym’s roof and floor at a February meeting.

Advance funds for the project were used, to be reimbursed by funds from the special purpose local option sales tax.

Cost of the work was expected to run about $119,000. School officials could not be reached Friday to verify the final cost.

Parents at the school urged the board to make repairs quickly rather than wait until summer when school is out.

The new roof design is intended to help water flow into gutters rather than collect on the roof and lead to more leaks.

Vinyl tiles were installed on the gym floor until the roof repairs were completed, with the wooden floor installed later.
