If you didn’t send off your tax information before Monday’s tax deadline day, then you might have encountered a line at the local post office trying to get your information mailed out on time.

Just like during the Christmas season, tax deadline day attracted business to local post offices, as people sent off their last-minute tax information to meet the April 15 deadline.

“It’s been (very) busy. I’ve been to several (post offices), and every office I’ve been to, it’s been busy,” said Michael Miles, communications manager of the Atlanta district for the U.S. Postal Service. “One office reminded me of Christmas time. It was about 2 p.m. or so, and unusual to see it that busy (for the time of day).”

According to Miles, some offices in the North Georgia area stayed open past their normal closing time to accommodate their customers Monday night. However, Miles said no offices in the Gainesville area were open past normal hours.

On some offices being open later, Miles said, “As a public service agency, we try to accommodate our customers as much as possible. This makes it easier for the customer. ... All in all, it's been good; trying to be good to the customers, and it’s been good for us.”
