POSTED: April 11, 2013 1:01 a.m.

The North Georgia Community Foundation is requesting nominations for its 2013 Philanthropist of the Year award.

The deadline for nominations is June 7 and forms are available on the foundation’s website, www.ngcf.org/poy, or by calling 770-535-7880, ext. 221.

The winner will be honored Nov. 7 during the foundation’s annual Philanthropy Day luncheon at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville on Green Street.

“Our communities are continually blessed by the generosity of (their) people,” said Jim Mathis, North Georgia Community Foundation president and CEO. “With our Philanthropist of the Year award, we seek to honor the people who have created a legacy of giving that has and will continue to benefit the communities of North Georgia.”

To be eligible for nomination, a person must live in the 15-county area served by the foundation and have a strong record of charitable giving.

A selection committee comprises past recipients and two foundation board members.

Last year’s recipients were Richard and Phyllis Leet. Some previous winners include Jim Walters, Philip and Mary Hart Wilheit, Lessie Smithgall and Mike and Lynn Cottrell.
