North Hall student recovering from jogging accident

POSTED: March 26, 2013 11:43 p.m.

A North Hall Middle School eighth-grader was recuperating Tuesday after being hit by a car while jogging Monday afternoon.

William Usrey, 14, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with deep abrasions and bruises after being brushed by a car at about 4:45 p.m. while he was attempting to cross the road, Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins said.

Usrey was jogging with another student on Jim Hood Road, not as part of any school activity, his mother Stephanie Usrey told school officials.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Devon Fields said Usrey forgot to look both ways when crossing.

“As for his injuries, he’s pretty beat up, but nothing serious,” Fields said.

Usrey’s mother said witnesses told her the driver slowed and maneuvered in an effort to avoid the accident. She told school officials her son hopes to be back to school today.
