The University of North Georgia baseball team closed out its two-game series against Carson-Newman College with a 5-2 win on Wednesday in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Kenny Bellavance gave North Georgia a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when he scored off an error as the Carson-Newman catcher tried to catch Tremayne Toorie stealing, but the shortstop misplayed the throw. Bellavance would later score off a single to center field by Toorie, giving him four runs scored against Carson-Newman.

Eason Spivey would extend the Saints lead to 2-0 after doubling to left field and scoring when the Eagles’ pitcher overthrew the first baseman while trying to throw Jesse Strickland out at first.

Both Spivey and Bellavance collected two hits in the game with each going 2 for 4 at the plate.

Blake Gaubert (2-1), a freshman right-hander, pitched the first six innings and gave up the lone unearned run in the contest and struck out three of the 28 batters he faced. Chip Fleming came in for the final three innings of work to earn the save.
