Firefighters responded to a report of a lightning-caused house fire Monday evening.
A caller reported a lightning strike caused a fire at a house in the 6100 block of Old Dahlonega Highway at about 6:19 p.m., Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said.
Firefighters found a 5,0000-square-foot house with heavy fire showing from the basement/rear.
Everyone was able to get out and there were no injuries, Kimbrell said, but a pet cat died. The family declined Red Cross Aid.
“(The) structure sustained heavy fire damage to the basement, mainly heavy heat and smoke damage to main level,” Kimbrell said.
The home was valued at about $400,000 and damage was estimated at $300,000.
