Ian Cundiff of Scout Troop No. 203 in Gainesville achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Dec. 4.

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held for Cundiff on March 2 at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Oakwood, where he is a member and where he completed his Eagle Scout Service Project.

His project involved constructing a path through the woods beside his church to an outdoor worship area he planned and executed, including setting in benches, building an altar and laying in a fire pit.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is an accomplishment that only a handful of Boy Scouts of America achieve. In 2012, when the Gainesville resident earned the rank of Eagle at age 15, scouting celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first American Boy Scout earning Eagle Scout status.

Of the 2.7 million registered youth members of Scouting, fewer than 4 percent become Eagle Scouts.

The Harris Products Group has partnered with the Hall County chapter of the March of Dimes for many years. This year, the company has signed on as the presenting sponsor for the March for Babies, the organization’s signature fundraising event this spring.

As a presenting sponsor, Harris has donated $7,500 to the nonprofit’s March for Babies walk at 10 a.m. April 20 at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

Harris, which operates a manufacturing facility in Hall County, also will have teams made up of employees and their families and support the event with volunteers and other assistance, as in previous years.

Funds raised by the Hall County March for Babies will stay local, helping the chapter start and grow existing programs that help improve the health of babies.
