LaGrange College sophomore and North Hall grad Danielle Newbern was named USA South Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced earlier this week. Newbern helped the Panthers open the 2013 season last week with a 4-0 record.
In a season-opening doubleheader sweep of Wesleyan, she was a combined 4 for 7 with six runs scored, five RBIs, a home run, a walk and two stolen bases. Newbern finished her week by going 5 for 8 with six runs scored, five RBIs, two doubles, a home run and two stolen bases in two wins over Salem.
