Georgia high school fishing state championship to be held in Gainesville

POSTED: March 7, 2013 10:31 p.m.

The Georgia high school fishing state championship sanctioned by The Bass Federation and FLW Outdoors is scheduled for Sunday, May 5 at Laurel Park in Gainesville.

The state championship is a two-person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their coach, who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at highschoolfishing.org.

Check-in is from 6:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the Fair Street Neighborhood Center in Gainesville with a mandatory rules briefing to follow. Take off is at first light, and weigh-in times will be announced at the briefing.

To pre-register and avoid an additional fee for registering at check-in, visit highschoolfishing.org.

If anglers are not current members of the Student Angler Federation (SAF), there is a $25 per angler fee that includes full membership benefits for the year for TBF and FLW Outdoors, as well as free entry to all SAF sanctioned events.

Anglers who are SAF members can take a free online test at highschoolfishing.org about boater safety, conservation and angler ethics, to make themselves eligible for awards at the state championship.

The state champions from each state will advance to the FLW/TBF High School Fishing Conference Championship and conference winners will advance to the FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held in conjunction with FLW Outdoors College Fishing National Championship in the spring of 2014.

All SAF members nationwide and all state championship participants automatically qualify for the 2013 High School Fishing World Finals where students will compete for college scholarships and prizes.
