Two Truett McConnell basketball players receive SSAC honors

Truett McConnell’s Andretti Loyd was named the best Freshman Player in the Southern States Athletic Conference at its postseason banquet on Wednesday in Montgomery, Ala.

Only one player receives the award out of the 14 member colleges and universities which cover the Southeastern United States. Loyd averaged 13.7 points on the season while shooting 42 percent from behind the 3-point line. He also shot 80 percent from the free-throw line on the year with five rebounds per game as well.

Loyd and the rest of the Bears return to action in the NCCAA Regional Tournament on March 7 at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs.

DIXON NAMED TO ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM: Truett McConnell’s Krista Dixon was awarded All-Freshman Team honors in women’s basketball by the SSAC on Wednesday.

Dixon was second in scoring for the Lady Bears at 7.8 points a game and led the team in rebounds per game with an average of 4.4.
