High school scoreboard: Flowery Branch girls win soccer opener

The Flowery Branch girls opened the season with a 2-0 win against Johnson on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Julia Sienkiewicz and Kimberly McNeil each scored one goal in the second half to lead Flowery Branch to the win.

Corrie Thomas recorded one assist. Elizabeth Bachmann recorded the shutout in goal with one save.

The Lady Falcons visit Buford at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON BOYS 4, FLOWERY BRANCH 2: Fabian Abarca recorded two goals for the Knights as they won their season opener on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Barut Perez and Bryant Anaya each added a goal for Johnson (1-0), and Alan Morales made four saves in the win.

The Knights play host to Winder-Barrow on Thursday in Oakwood.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 5, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: Mary-Catherine Dempsey scored two goals for the Lady Red Elephants on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Hartley Carter, Margaret Carpenter and Rachel Dillard each added a goal for Gainesville (1-0), and Ashlie Gonzalez recorded the shutout in goal with one save.

The Lady Red Elephants visit Lakeview Academy at 5:30 tonight in Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 3, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: Junior Zargosa tallied two goals for the Red Elephants on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Christian Ochoa added the third goal for Gainesville (1-0), and Roberto Nunez, Ricardo Gomez, and Alberto Murillo each tacked on assists.

Josh Aguilar made five saves in the shutout win.

The Red Elephants travel to Creekview at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Canton.
