White County didn’t make mistakes, Commerce made too many.

The Lady Tigers (0-1) poor baserunning and fielding combined with White County’s timely hitting and flawless defense led to a 9-0 rout by the Lady Warriors (1-0) in five innings Friday at the Lanier Point Invitational at Lanier Point Park.

“I hope we play that well all the time,” White County coach John Brown said. “I’m really excited about what I saw.”

The Lady Warriors started strong, scoring five runs in the top of the first, on six singles and one wild pitch.

White County’s starting pitcher, sophomore Stephanie Satterfield, got off to a slow start with the five-run cushion.

Her defense, however, more than made up for it ending the first two innings with double plays. Catcher

Krista Woody did her part defensively throwing out two Commerce baserunners at first.

“(Shortstop) Meghan Oliver and (second baseman) Katherine Sledge turned their first double play together at the varsity level,” Brown said.

“That was pretty impressive.”

Satterfield found her rhythm by the bottom of the third when she struck out the side.

She would finish the game with six strikeouts, one walk and the shutout win.

“Stephanie was just awesome,” Brown said.

Callie McDonald, a freshman, went 3-for-3 with a run scored for White County. Woody was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Katie Medlock was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

White County continues pool play at 8 a.m. today when it plays Gainesville.

Commerce suffered through another rout in its nightcap, a 9-0 loss to Habersham Central, and continues pool play at 11 a.m. today against Gainesville.
