Lanier Tech hires new dean

Lindsey to serve Dawson campus after stint at Shorter

POSTED: February 2, 2013 12:30 a.m.

Lanier Technical College announced on Friday the selection of Troy Lindsey as dean of its Dawson campus.

Prior to assuming the position, Lindsey most recently served as the assistant dean of students at Shorter University’s Gwinnett campus. He also has teaching experience at both Shorter and Chattahoochee Technical College.

“I am excited to join the excellent team at Lanier Tech,” he said. “I look forward to continuing the firm relationships that have already been established in the Dawson County area. I am certain that building
on the great foundation that Lanier Tech has established will be both challenging and fulfilling.”

Lindsey officially began the role Friday. He replaces Tim McDonald, who served as dean for three years before his promotion to Lanier Tech’s vice president of economic development in October.

Lindsey’s extensive experience in leading students in completion of their programs of study, coupled with his active membership in the National Academics Advisors Association, allows him “to stay abreast of research in and best practices of academic services including student retention,” according to a release from the college.

He holds a Master of Science in human resource development (adult education) and a Bachelor of Arts in geography, both from Georgia State University. He also has a Master of Arts in Christian education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, La.

Lindsey expects to graduate with a Doctor of Educational Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., in December. He has completed the doctoral program aside from the dissertation.

Lindsey said he is looking forward to moving to the area.

“My wife and I are also eager to relocate to the Dawson County area in the coming weeks,” he said.
