High school wrestling: Area traditional tournament scoreboard

Flowery Branch finished the first day of the Area 8-AAAAA Traditional tournament with 10 of 14 wrestlers still in the championship bracket and the other four still in contention for a top-4 spot in the consolation bracket in Flowery Branch.

After two rounds in the championship bracket and one of wrestlebacks, six Falcons are still undefeated in the tournament.

Ben Horton (126 pounds), Brady Dyer (145), Quentin Newman (160), Grant Simonds (182) and Devonte King (195) all ended the day with two pins and a 2-0 record.

Falcons coach Shane Millwood said Gainesville also did well in the first day, advancing 10 wrestlers to Day 2.

Flowery Branch returns to action in the tournament at 10 a.m. today in Flowery Branch.

BANKS COUNTY KEEPS 10 IN AREA 4-AAA CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKETS: After day one, all 14 Leopards wrestlers are still in contention for one of four spots in each weight class that will advance to the state sectionals tournaments next weekend.

Chris McCracken (106 pounds), Taylor Wood (120), Mason Patton (126), Francisco Hurtado (132), Tony Fultz (138), Dillon Gouing (145), Wes Faulkner (160), Eli Smallwood (170), Hayden Dilbeck (182) and Pat Dilbeck (195) are the 10 Banks County wrestlers still in the championship brackets and will wrestle in the semifinals this morning.

For fellow 4-AAA team North Hall, seven wrestlers made it through to the second day of the individual tournament.

Taylor Marett (106), Michael Carew (120), David Lush (132), Tyler Kratzer (145) and Matthew Scavuzzo (152) are all in the semifinals, and two more Trojan wrestlers are competing in the wrestlebacks.

For East Hall, Will Dawson, Corey Reece and J.D. Holloway all advanced to the semifinals. The Vikings also had four move through to the consolation bracket.

The tournament begins with semifinals and wrestlebacks at 9 this morning in Elberton.

JEFFERSON ADVANCES 12 TO SEMIFINALS IN 4-AA: The Dragons sent 12 wrestlers on to the semifinals of the Area 4-AA Traditionals tournament Friday in Lilburn.

Chase Piperato, Ben Kelly, Kyle Kashuba, Josh Harris, Tanner Thurmond, Tyler Marinelli, Jack Dollar, Jake Sherman, Zach Rhymer, Tradd Porter, Jace McColskey and Aaron Anderson all advanced to the semifinals at 9 a.m. today at Greater Atlanta Christian.
