No one injured in basement blaze

POSTED: January 24, 2013 11:01 p.m.

Gainesville firefighters put out a small fire Thursday afternoon at a home off Thompson Bridge Road, Interim Gainesville Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said.

No one was injured in the fire and it was contained to one room in the basement of the 1,500-square-foot structure at 439 Piedmont Road. Heat and smoke did damage throughout the house, though, Yarbrough said.

The call came in about 12:50 p.m. and the fire was out in about 20 minutes, he said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
