A 20-year-old man accidentally shot himself early Monday afternoon while he was preparing to clean a handgun, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said.
“Initial reports indicate that he was in the process of disassembling the weapon and failed to properly clear the chamber,” Wilbanks said. “The weapon discharged, with the bullet striking him in the abdomen.”
The incident happened in the 6500 block of Secret Cove Court in Flowery Branch.
The man was conscious and alert when deputies and emergency personnel arrived, but Wilbanks did not know his current condition. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
