Do you, a family member or friend have diabetes?

Mark your calendar and register soon for the upcoming Diabetes 101 seminar that will be held on Sept. 13 at the Georgia Mountains Center in downtown Gainesville. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with exhibits and continental breakfast. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

The registration cost is $15, and $20 after Sept. 5. This includes breakfast, lunch, exhibits and classes. This is a full day of diabetes information for people with prediabetes, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes plus their family members and friends.

Diabetes 101 brochures are available at the Cooperative Extension office, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Longstreet Clinic, Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic, the Health Department, area doctors' offices, as well as pharmacies. You must mail in a registration form or call with a credit card to 1-888-DIABETES (342-2383), ext. 3166. Partial scholarships are available for those who qualify.

The keynote motivational speaker will be Dr. Charles H. Raine III of the Diabetes Control Center in Orangeburg, S.C. His speech is titled, "Diabetes in the Real World."

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle will discuss legislation issues in "Making Your Voice Heard." A panel of doctors, registered dieticians and certified diabetes educators will lead a discussion addressing "Everything you ever wanted to know about diabetes ... Ask the experts."

Attendees will also have the opportunity to see educational exhibits and receive free samples of products from vendors.

Participants can choose to attend four sessions on a variety of topics including:
