Defending Class AA state champions Jefferson continued their bid for their 10th straight duals state championship with a 54-18 win against Calhoun in the quarterfinals on Friday in Macon.
The Dragons defeated Monticello 41-36 in the semifinals and will wrestle last season’s Class A state champion Bremen in the championship match at 3 p.m. today at the Macon Centreplex in Macon.
CLASS AAA: Area 4-AAA champion Banks County began their state duals tournament with a 67-6 win over Pierce County in the first round on Friday in Macon.
The Leopards went on to beat Sonoraville 44-24 and await Woodward Academy in the state championship match at 3 p.m. today at the Macon Centreplex in Macon.
CLASS A: Commerce started the tournament with a 60-16 win against Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Friday in Macon.
The Tigers lost to Gordon Lee in the semifinals 42-27 and will wrestle Turner County in the consolation semifinals at 11 a.m. this morning in Macon.
CLASS AAAA: Chestatee fell to West Laurens 39-27 in the quarterfinals of the state duals tournament on Friday in Macon.
Relegated to the second round of wrestlebacks, the War Eagles then defeated Area 8-AAAA Lumpkin County once again 32-30 but lost to Marist 42-24 later in the day, ending their tournament run.
With the loss to Chestatee, Lumpkin County is also finished in the tournament.
CLASS AAAAA: Flowery Branch started the state duals tournament strong in Thursday with a 51-21 win over Northside-Warner Robins, but couldn’t continue the momentum in Day 2, losing to Ware County 44-21 in the quarterfinals and Effingham County 35-21 in the second round of wrestlebacks on Friday in Macon.
The Falcons return to action in a quad-match against West Forsyth, George Walton Academy and Johnson on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.
