Hall County Girl Scout Troop No. 13578 recently dropped off presents for 13 local children they sponsored at the United Methodist Children's Home in Gainesville. Each Scout sponsored at least one or two children for Christmas by donating new practical items, toys, plush items, shoes, clothing, accessories and food. Pictured with the Girl Scouts is Sondra Rogers, director of United Methodist Children's Home.

The Quinlan Visual Arts Center recently held the "Dog and Pony Show," a special exhibition for winter 2012 featuring pet-themed art in various types of media.

Winners for the contest portion of the exhibit were: First place to Ann Goble for "Brad’s Share;" second place to Yvonne Mendez for "Trouble;" third place to Amy Zoe Galtier for "Sheepish Smile."

Honorable mentions were Beth Henson for "Khan;" Norma Hulsey for "Martin;" Lynn Satterfield for "The Sentry" and Dixie Truelove for "Girl’s Trip to the Barn."

Pieces were juried by Julie Edwards of the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia and Amanda McClure, executive director of the Quinlan Visual Arts Center.

A portion of the proceeds go to Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. The exhibition is now on view through Feb. 16.
