The Gainesville City Council will hold a work session on Thursday to address issues relating to pawnshop licenses, renovating the Wessell Park Court and demolition of the Green Street Pool.

Green Street Pool was opened in 1931, but the city closed the site in 2009 because it needed between $500,000 and $750,000 in repairs.

Director of Parks and Recreation Melvin Cooper said in July that the Parks and Recreation Board has approved the first phase of renovation of the site, estimated to cost $28,250 and paid for with impact fees.

The reported goal is to demolish the swimming pool and fill it in to create more green space. The city is considering turning the area into a passive park with picnic and tailgating areas.

Wessell Park needs repairs to its tennis courts. Starting both projects together and bidding them out at the same could be easier and less expensive to the city, Deputy Director Michael Graham said in a July interview.
