Gainesville police are seeking a suspect and clues in the shooting death of a man found Friday morning at a local car dealership.

Police were called about 8 a.m. to Carriage Mitsubishi at 2801 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville after an employee found the body of Charles Weaver, 42, of Gainesville, in the rear of the complex.

Gainesville Police Department Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said the shooting likely occurred in the early morning hours Friday before the business was open to customers.

Weaver is an employee of the dealership and managers called him part of the “work family.”

A Facebook page that appears to belong to Weaver states he worked in shipping and receiving with the Carriage Automotive Group, went to Johnson High School and was married.

Police are investigating with the assistance of the GBI. They are seeking a red 2011 Nissan Frontier pickup they say was stolen shortly after the shooting. The car has the dealership’s markings on it; the tag reads BSA7013.

Gainesville police warned that the subject who has the car could be armed and dangerous.

Police do not know how the suspect got to the scene of the crime.

Few other details were available about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the motivation of the suspect.

“At this time the motive is still unclear to us,” Holbrook said. “It’s still very early in the investigation. We won’t speculate on any motive without due cause.”

Dealership managers said the owners are offering $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information can contact police at 770-534-5252 or call 911.
