Man denied bond on charges of shooting at Jackson Electric workers

POSTED: December 27, 2012 11:59 p.m.

A Hall County man accused of firing at utility workers early Wednesday was denied bond Thursday afternoon, according to Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Josh Deal, 62, faces two counts of aggravated assault. Wilbanks said Deal fired “at least two shots” in the direction of a Jackson Electric Membership Corp. crew, which responded to a downed tree on a power line in the 4200 block of Holland Drive off Browns Bridge Road around midnight Wednesday.

No one was injured in the incident, and the utility workers left the area and called 911.

The SWAT team was called in and Deal “voluntarily exited his residence and was taken into custody without further incident” around 2 a.m., Wilbanks said.

Wilbanks said the man “appeared to be highly intoxicated” but did seem to know the men were with the utility company. A committal hearing for Deal is scheduled for Jan. 11.
