Today marks one week until Christmas, and for some in the North Georgia area, Monday was their deadline to get out cards, letters and packages to make sure they’re delivered by Christmas Day.

Monday was deemed the busiest day of the year for the U.S. Post Office.

An estimated 3.8 million cards, packages and letters were going to be brought in and delivered on Monday in the North Georgia and Atlanta areas, according to Michael Miles, communications manager of the Atlanta district for the U.S. Postal Service.

“Business has been brisk throughout the area,” he said.

But if you weren’t able to deliver on Monday, you still have time, according to Miles.

He said you can use first-class mail delivery up until Thursday.

If you’re sending packages Friday, you’ll need to use priority mail delivery.

After Friday, you have to use express mail service, and you can use express service as late as Christmas Eve.

“The closer you get (to Christmas), the more it costs; and some post offices close at noon on Christmas Eve,” he said.
