North Georgia men win 3rd straight

The North Georgia College & State University men’s basketball team recorded its third win in a row Saturday afternoon as the Saints held on to claim a 92-90 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University in both teams’ Peach Belt Conference opener in Savannah.

Ishmael Hollis led North Georgia (6-2) with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Corey Green and Travis Core added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Saints. Scott Windom and Chris Tanzy both came off the bench to score 15 and 13 points each. Tanzy led the team with seven assists and six steals.

Aric Miller led the Pirates with 22 points and Eric Eversley finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

North Georgia will close out the 2012 portion of their season with a 7:30 p.m. game Monday against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. The game will be part of basketball doubleheader with the women playing first at 5:30 p.m.

NORTH GEORGIA WOMEN 74, ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC 63: Both Jaymee Carnes and Stephanie Huffman recorded double-doubles Saturday afternoon to lead the North Georgia College & State University women’s basketball team (3-5) to a victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University in both teams’ Peach Belt Conference opener in Savannah.

Carnes, a Gainesville grad, had her best game of the season as she collected her second double-double of the season off 23 points and 18 rebounds.
