The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi announced that the following local students were recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines:

Trent Tignor of Hoschton, who is pursuing a degree in Finance at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.
Sara Gibson of Flowery Branch, wh•o is pursuing a degree in Nursing at Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta.

The Gainesville High School Academic team competed in the North Georgia Academic Bowl tournament recently, defeating seven top-ranked high schools in the state before finishing second to South Forsyth in the finals.
The team will advance to the State Academic Bowl tournament scheduled in February.

Last month, the Academic team defeated Flowery Branch High School to claim the title as region champions with a 26-0 record.

Varsity team members are John Lee Givogre, William Morrison, Jorge Gonzalez, Alex Longoria, Maggie Auffarth, John Stenzil, Charles Calkins, Andrew Kelley, Gabrielle Diaz, Youseff Haddad, Kevin Von Danz, Helley Petel, Anh Nguyen, Martha McKinnon, Chris Kelley, Olivia Bolemnab, Heather Vandiver, Donovan Moss, Kelsey Kirkpatrick, Katherine Jones, and Laramy Head. The team coaches are Pam Michelson and Sally Jackson.

The junior varsity team participated in the North Georgia Academic Bowl tournament. Last month, it placed second in the region tournament.

Junior varsity team members are Mayra Razo, Pramoda Karnati, Bleu Bell, Trevor Munn, Madeline Robinson, Emmeline Jones, Ben Bullard, Josue Toledo, Kush Petel, Sam Terray, Graham McKinnon, and Lee Hughes. The team coach is Bryant Tench.
