Buford fire station gets new swift water rescue truck

POSTED: December 12, 2012 10:49 p.m.

A new swift water rescue truck is coming to Fire Station 14 in Buford to help respond to emergencies on the Chattahoochee River and Lake Lanier.

Gwinnett County commissioners approved the $229,461 purchase on Tuesday, with funding coming from the county’s 2009 special purpose local option sales tax, according to a news release from the county.

Southeastern Specialty Vehicles in North Carolina will build the truck on a Ford F-550 chassis to comply with codes and standards of the National Fire Protection Association.

Gwinnett Fire Chief Bill Myers said the swift water rescue team played an instrumental role during a flood in 2009, and in 2011 it responded to 36 calls.
