GTA brings monsters to square with children’s performance

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance Repertory Company will bring some scary fun to the Gainesville Square this weekend.

At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, the group will present a special holiday performance of "Monsters Under the Bed" (a Christmas adaptation of three hilarious and touching international monster fables), a theatrical movement exercises to shake out the wiggles and a staged reading of the dastardly holiday favorite "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The GTA Repertory Company is comprised of some of students in the Gainesville Theatre Alliance theater training program, a collaboration of Brenau University and Gainesville State College. They perform each year at schools, community centers, retirement communities and hospitals from October through March.

This weekend’s event will be in conjunction with MainStreet Gainesville’s "Mingle with Kringle" family activities on the downtown square. Santa will be in the MainStreet Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for photos and wish lists.

The 90-minute performance by the GTA will take place in the lobby of Hunt Tower, 200 Main St., in Gainesville. Tickets to the performance are $6 and can be purchased at the GTA website, www.gainesvilleTHEATREalliance.org, or by calling 678-717-3624.
