The Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy Show Choir is taking its show to the big time.

On Friday, the choir, made up of fourth- and fifth-graders who “excel at signing and dancing,” will perform at Gov. Nathan Deal’s open house.

From 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the choir will sing at the governor’s mansion, at 391 W. Paces Ferry Road NW in northeast Atlanta.

Each year, during the holiday season, the mansion hosts an open house for the public.

“One of our goals is to be an outreach for Enota, Gainesville City Schools, and our community,” said Sheila Rogers, music director at Enota.

“We have performed at many events locally and desired to branch out. What a better way than to perform at our own governor’s mansion? It is such an honor to represent Gov. Deal’s hometown at the mansion’s open house.”

The 24,000-square-foot mansion, built in 1967, boasts three floors and 30 rooms and stands on 18 acres.

Gainesville schools to give big send-off to football team

The Gainesville High School football team will leave the school Friday to play for a AAAAA state championship at the Georgia Dome, but not before being saluted by students and community members.

The buses will leave at 1:20 p.m., after a salute from Gainesville High students, then travel to every school in the system and the central office, to receive support from students and employees.

The system invites community members to show their support on Green Street as the buses travel by at about 1:35 p.m.

The game will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Mentorship group talks college advice

The Hall County Mentorship Program has secured six former students to present at a class this Friday at the Hall County Schools central office.

North Georgia College & State University freshmen Brittani Hill and David French, along with University of Georgia students Bekki Benton, Tiffani Poole and Chase Staub and Brenau University sophomore Tatiana Madera will present on how to get the most out of a college experience.

The 3 p.m. program will focus on “how to get the most out of your college internships, how to take charge of your learning and real life advice about college.”

The college students will present in the large conference room of the office at 711 Green St.

Cadets to hear about character development

The president of Georgia Gwinnett College, Daniel J. Kaufman, will speak at Riverside Military Academy today during a character development program for the cadets.

The program, held from 11:15 until 11:50 a.m. in the Sandy Beaver Center Auditorium, will be followed by the Corps of Cadets pass and review on the Lanier Quad.

Kaufman took over as charter president of Georgia Gwinnett in 2005, when the school became the first new four-year college in the state in more than 100 years.
