Lanier Technical College on Tuesday honored one of its longtime supporters.

Hall County Board of Commissioners Chairman Tom Oliver was presented with a framed joint resolution honoring his years of support by the College Board of Directors and Board of Trustees. He also was presented with a framed metal Seal of the College by President Russell Vandiver, and Gus Whalen, founder of the Featherbone Communiversity, presented him with a framed photo of the Communiversity.

“Tom has been a longtime friend and great supporter of Lanier Technical College,” Vandiver said in a news release. “He has been there for us, the students, the college and the community. His support has helped lead our tremendous growth and helped us continue to be the foremost workforce development leader in our area.”

Oliver was a strong supporter of the college’s transformation as it established the Manufacturing Development Center to create new businesses and jobs for the area, according to the release.

Since 2011, 3,200 jobs have been added in the college’s service area, making Lanier Tech’s workforce development mission critical to the area, college officials said.

Oliver, a poultry and cattle farmer, has served as commission chairman since 2005 and also served as a commissioner from 1991-94. He leaves office at the end of the year.
