Second man found dead in Forsyth County apartment

Investigators suspect murder-suicide

POSTED: August 10, 2008 5:01 a.m.

CUMMING — The bodies of two men were found Wednesday afternoon in an apartment building in Forsyth County in what officials believe may have been a murder-suicide.

Capt. Frank Huggins with the sheriff’s office said the first body was discovered at about 1 p.m. in a residence in a Carlton Road quadraplex by a co-worker who had gone to check on the man. Huggins said the victim, whose name has not been released, was in his mid-70s.

The man was lying on a bed with what Huggins described as "an apparent gunshot wound" that was not self-inflicted.

"By all indications at the scene it was a homicide," Huggins said.

At about 6 p.m., authorities found another body in the apartment next door.

Lt. Col. Gene Moss, commander of the sheriff’s office law enforcement bureau, said it appears that the second man’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Although investigators are not releasing the names of the victims, they think the first man they found was the landlord, and the second was a tenant.
