Yet another rabies case for Hall: No. 29

POSTED: August 10, 2008 5:01 a.m.

Looks like the rabies epidemic in Hall County is picking up speed again.

One day after the 28th rabies case was announced, a 29th case was confirmed.

Both of this week’s cases occurred in North Hall. On Sunday, a rabid fox encountered a cat and dog near Ledan Road and Woodlane Way.

The latest incident took place Monday off Point North Drive in North Hall, where a raccoon came into contact with two dogs.

On Wednesday, the Georgia Public Health Lab confirmed that the raccoon had rabies.

Rick Aiken, president of the Humane Society of Hall County, said the two dogs are under quarantine at the animal shelter because they were not current on their rabies shots.

Anyone who observes an animal behaving strangely should notify Hall County Animal Control at 770-531-6830.

Also, Hall County residents are urged to make sure their pets are vaccinated. The Humane Society will offer a rabies vaccination clinic from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the animal shelter on West Ridge Road.

Shots cost $10, and are available for dogs and cats at least 3 months old. Pets must be restrained on a leash or in a carrier.

For more information about the clinic, call the Humane Society at 770-532-6617.
